With the current implementation, it looks like the timer is reset every
time the pointer exits from the proximity area. This creates a paradox
because it makes the ephemeral notifications more persistent the more
the user interacts with the content underneath them.

Proposed solution:

- Pause the timer when the pointer enters in the proximity area
- Resume (not reset) the timer when the pointer exits the proximity area
