You have been subscribed to a public bug:

when creating a user account with no password, the lock and logout
functions dont work. you must click on another users name to log out or
lock the account. i think that the lock should take you back to the user
selection screen without disrupting the windows in your account. the log
out should sign out and discard your windows.
