Binary package hint: indicator-applet
I-A works great with pidgin except that if I am already talking to
someone and have the text box focused (the normal case, as I am typing
to them), a new message from them will cause I-A to show a new message
even though their chat is already focused and I am looking at it. The
only way to get it to mark the message as read is to click in the actual
message body above the text box, which is never something you normally
do (or click another tab/window and come back).
This is reproducible always with 0.1.6-0ubuntu1 in Jaunty.
