indicator-applet is using about as much CPU time as Xorg, and regularly consumes 100% CPU for couple seconds. ran /usr/lib/indicator-applet/listen-and-print as suggested, and it produces no additional output and consumes no CPU when indicator-applet is using 100% CPU.
