Not at all, Jim. Ink jet print is water soluble and will instantly smear or
smudge if subjected to a droplet of water. It also fades quite rapidly.
Laser printers fuse the toner to the media under a high heat, which sets the
print and makes it impervious to moisture and fading. Laser printers have
come down substantially in cost and are quite affordable for anyone looking
for near perfect quality printing at a cost per page of just a fraction of
what ink jet pages cost. In the big picture, if you don't require color
printing, a laser printer provides far better quality print, far less costly
than an ink jet printer today. Color laser printers are still a bit costly,
but also have been coming down to be more affordable for home office use.
Laser printers are also quite a bit more dependable and easier to repair
than ink jets, which, for the most part, are expendable and not cost
effective to repair.
