Thanks to everybody answering my original question about saving spot info. It seems that there are two opinions 1. it works without problem 2. it doesn't work but can be solved checking Save DX Spots in Preferences/Packet1
When I compare v 5.03 and 6.02 it works OK in 5.03 without having checked Save DX Spots. In 6.02 I can get it work IF I check Save DX Spots. I have set update to every 10 min and it is interesting to note that if I have spots coming up in the window say after only two minutes after start of DX4WIN and exit , they are still saved and appear when reloading DX4WIN again. So in my view there is bug here introduced with v 6.02 (or 6.01 for that matter).
