OK I gave up! Whatever combination I tried they would never talk to each other.
I have gone back to DX4WIN - DXTelnet and it works perfectly. Just one "hotKey" and everything is go. Maybe when I get to Windows Vista and DX4WIN version 8 I'll give it another try.
