Although this is a true statement, the more important question is: "Why does DX4Win need to constantly poll VFO B?" The software does not need to know VFO B information until the "Add QSO" or <Enter> key is pressed. Otherwise, who cares if the radio is in split mode or what the frequency is for VFO B? Furthermore, since the newest version of microcode for these radios allows the software to determine whether the radio is in split mode, there is no reason to poll VFO B unless the radio tells the software that the radio is, in fact, operating split... and then only at the moment you press the <Save> button. Seems to me there could be a whole lot less jumping going on. -larry K8UT -----Original Message----- From: Jim Reisert AD1C Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2011 12:54 PM To: ik1MDF Cc: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] IC-7800... jumping On Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 3:41 AM, ik1MDF wrote: > I am using a ic-7800 rel. 2.30. > Using driver F230... the MAIN VFO will start to jump (every 5 second) on > the > SUB VFO, as if it wish to check the SUB, then retur to MAIN.... in LOOPING > way. No way to stop it. This is DX4WIN polling the radio. Your polling interval is set to 5 seconds. The only way software can read the 'B' VFO on an ICOM radio is to temporarily make that VFO active, read the frequency, then make the 'A' VFO active again. My IC-7600 does the same thing, using the latest radio firmware that tells software the radio is in SPLIT mode, and a test driver for DX4WIN that can read this bit. I think this functionality was added to the IC-7600, IC-7700 and IC-7800 radios, but from what I understand, the way the -7700 works is a little different compared to the other two. There should be an IC-7800 driver that does NOT support the SPLIT mode bit, perhaps in an older version of DX4WIN. It won't cause the problems you see, but DX4WIN also won't record both frequencies of a SPLIT-mode QSO in your log. You can avoid this by exiting Add QSO (real time), by typing ESC after you have logged a QSO. But then the Bandmap window won't track the radio anymore. This is how I operate most of the time. I don't type F9 until after I have worked the station and want to log the QSO. Then I type ESC to get out of real-time logging. > Using F130... does not happen.... but the frequency is complete wrong... > it > shows DOT instead of COMMA and only 4 digits (14.20) Maybe the polling is different with this driver. Paul will have to comment. I also think Guy ON4AOI may have this radio, and may be able to help you. I hope there will be some improvements in ICOM polling in a future version. This is my particular issue (with my IC-7600): When I am operating split, I set the 'B' (Tx) VFO to be active, so I can adjust my transmit frequency based on where the DX station is listening. When DX4WIN is polling, it resets this, leaving the 'A' (Rx) VFO active instead. Thus when I think I'm tuning my Tx VFO, I am now tuning the Rx VFO, and I end up tuning away from the DX station I'm trying to hear, instead of adjusting my transmit frequency. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, <jjreis...@alum.mit.edu>, http://www.ad1c.us ______________________________________________________________ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
