Well, my use of "LAN" was perhaps an overstatement. I have network cards in both machines and yes I suppose I could allow file sharing of the same database but part of the reason for my doing it the way that I do is for redundancy (ie backup). (Yes, I also backup on a zip drive and sometimes upload the file to my personal space at my ISP.) Furthermore, my wife might (often is) using the desktop while I'm hamming away. If I'm sharing the database in realtime and she does something that disables "her" computer, I'm screwed. That doesn't preclude me from "post processing" using a shared file I suppose. My technique evolved before I had the network cards and was passing a lesser amount of data via a floppy disk. Perhaps time to rething this although if only new QSOs are imported, it works fine. 73, Wes Stewart N7WS
