Ray, Not exactly the same circumstance, but I run '2002 on an old Toshiba Tecra (WIN98SE). I don't use packet or rotor control, but do use the serial port to interface to my TS-870 and the parallel port for occasional CW keying.
If you a shy about spending big bucks for a new laptop, you might consider an old one like mine. The only downside is the processor is only 133 MHz and only 64M RAM. It's pretty sluggish to load or when initializing tables but the price was right. For QSLing, reports, etc. I use a network card to interface with the desktop in another part of the house and pass the file back and forth. My 2 cents. Wes N7WS At 01:08 PM 5/15/02 -0400, Raymond W.
