The ARRL Web Site had a item announcing the Logbook of the World starting date. >"Logbook of the World" computer system upgrade is steadily moving toward full implementation this fall. "Both the Enterprise software and DXCC program are scheduled for implementation September 1, 2002. Implementation of the eCommerce will follow by one month. Logbook of the World is on track for initial implementation in September." As I understand it, this new system will make possible DXCC and other awards credit without actual sending or receiving of a traditional "hard copy" QSL card.<
For us DXB 'paper chasers', this has the promise of being a convenient money saver. Just in case some reader do not know about the system. Basically the Logbook of the World will be a system where a member can upload his log to the LOW site and when any dxpedition, contest station or other member uploads their log, the system will check each log entry against the all other logs. So if P5/4L4FN submits his log and you submit yours, the system will check to see that each of you are both entered into the submitted logs, and if so, give you credit for that qso without the need for a qsl. And with DXB2003 log file already compatible, I'll be submitting mine as soon as they announce the date/time. I will still try to obtain qsl cards, just to maintain my collection. But at least I won't have to worry about postal loss etc. Of course it is dependent upon the other station submitting his log in a compatible format. Sure hope all dxpeditions use a DXB2003 style log system :-))) I attended a program where Wayne Mills explained the LOW system and I hope I have remembered the details correctly. ----------------------------------------------------- Newspaper Headline: Something Went Wrong in Jet Crash, Experts Say ----------------------------------------------------- Bill H. in Chicagoland [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.billnjudy.com http://files.billnjudy.com
