Jim,

Never heard of CWtype, but from the symptom you describe, it seems to me
that one of three things is occuring:

1.  The registry entries required for DXbase including the correct comport
address for your hardware are not present.
2.  The required driver files are not present in the appropriate folders on
your system.
3.  There may be a driver conflict between what is used in DXbase and what
is used in CWtype.  Possibly even the same driver or equivalent is being
used for both DXbase and for CWtype which might explain why when you have
CWtype running, DXbase works.

We have Win98se running here and the internal CW module works just fine
without CWtype installed.
