I don't know if this is it, but the W5XD keyer has both a left and right cw output. Try the other cw output and see if that works. I recall that I was trying to use the left output with DXbase and it would immediately switch to right, so now I use the right output. Maybe WriteLog lets you select which one you want to use for a single radio, I don't think DXbase has such an option.
