I heard of people not being successful getting cw to work but no mention of
the computer locking up.
But...
Any kind of a lockup is usually caused by irq conflicts.

You didn't say which OS your using but I suspect it's Win98 as XP has
virtually eliminated IRQ problems.

I'd look to see that the com port I/O addresses are not in conflict.
