I use Access 2000 routinely to compact my DXBase files. As others have said, their are two things to remember when doing this:
1. ALWAYS make a backup of your .mdb file! 2. NEVER use the Access option to "Convert your database"! Follow those two simple steps and you'll never have a problem. Also, the warning that Access gives when you open the file, "You can't make changes to the database objects..." simply means you can't add fields or change the database structure. You CAN use Access 2000 to do mass changes, search & replaces, things like that to the 'data' in the database. Just remember, be sure you BACKUP first! For those unfamiliar with Access, the command to compact the database can be found under: Tools--> Database Utilities--> Compact and Repair Database. ONLY Access97 though - not Access2000 ... or, you can use the "Access Maintainer Lite" program (that is meant for Access97 MDB files) and it will compact it automatically ... Yes- your MDB file will "grow" -- but you can routinely "compact" it and you will be very pleasantly surprised at how much space is taken up by "dead areas in your MDB file" .. The main thing here is to compact it with ONLY programs used for Access97 .. 73 de Joe WA6AXE [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > After importing DXB 2003 into DXB 2004 I noticed the size of my K4XG.MDB file > increased from 24 megs to 54 megs.
