I think the problem could happen with any app with any Windows OS where MSVCIRT.dll is corrupted or replaced with a back-level version.
Here's a more recent KB article, with a different product, describing the same problem and a Windows XP technique to fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302379 I went to the Microsoft Knowledge Base, http://support.microsoft.com <http://support.microsoft.com/> , chose "Knowledge Base" and searched for "MSVCIRT". There are a handful of knowledge base articles for various products with the same root cause. MSVCIRT.DLL is part of the Microsoft C/C++ runtime library and is often included with applications like DXBase or Intellipoint. Good installers shouldn't overlay current code with back-level versions. Some do. Good installers should install the complete C/C++ runtime distribution when they install a newer version. Not all do. Good installers shouldn't install release-dependent C/C++ runtime versions in a system directory. Some do. I generally get one with my Windows XP OS and sometimes a newer one when I install a new Microsoft Compiler. I don't know anything particular about Intellipoint install or how Tony got to where he is now. I'm suggesting that he might consider restoring MSVCIRT.DLL from his Windows OS disk which might be a lot easier than reinstalling everything else. 73 de Dick, K6KR -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of FireBrick Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 2:09 PM To: Dick Dievendorff; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 'Dxbase (E-mail)' Subject: Re: [DXBase] DXBase 2004 - PC problem Very interesting Dick. Can I assume from reading that this is only an issue in 98 or Millennium Edition???/ They only have fixes for those two version of OS. I'm also guessing that it must have been an old version of the mouse software??? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dick Dievendorff" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "'Dxbase (E-mail)'" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 4:02 PM Subject: RE: [DXBase] DXBase 2004 - PC problem > http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=296551 > > Dick, K6KR > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of N2TK > Sent: Monday, December 08, 2003 1:44 PM > To: Dxbase (E-mail) > Subject: [DXBase] DXBase 2004 - PC problem > > 2004 has been working great since I installed it.
