The one problem most Windows users have had is that most of the USB to Serial
adapters
will not pass 5 bit code needed to operate FSK.
the RTTY group has been beating it's head on this for a while.

If you contact Byterunner, please ask them if they will do 5 bit code.
If they say yes, tell them to ramp up....and then please let me know.

Subject: [DXBase] Multi Serial Port Adaptors

Hello All:

I just upgraded one of the shack computers from a PII to a P4. Originally, I
was using a
Rocketport ISA to Serial Port Adaptor on that computer. However, the new
Motherboard does
not have any ISA Slots. So, I will have to upgrade the Serial Port Adaptor to
go along
with the "new" P4. I have another P4 in the Shack that I use a Byte Runner PCI
to Serial
Port Adaptor with. It has worked very well for me.

As I was looking at ordering another PCI to Serial Port Adaptor to go with the
"new" P4, I
saw that Byte Runner also has USB to Serial Port Adaptors available. I was
wondering if
the USB to Serial Port Adaptor might not be a better more updated way to go
than with the
PCI to Serial Port Adaptor. Has anyone had any experience with USB to Serial
Port
Adaptors? Has there been any compatibility issues between them and the Ham Gear
attached
to them? Will they work with DXBase Software?

Thanks for the information.
