Bill, Program features have been added over the years which made it slower on an old machine. I upgraded hardware late last year to a Dell 8300, with a 3 GHz Hyperthreading CPU (whatever that is) and 1G of RAM. DXbase takes 6 seconds to load and runs fine on my PC. I have auto screen lookups from RAC on the hard drive for every DX spot from the cluster, and the program always keeps up. I have several other programs (Palm Desktop, Internet Explorer, AR User, Mailwasher, Outlook Express) running simultaneously too.
AN article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal said that HP has lowered PC prices to their break-even point to increase market share so they can sell peripherals, so this might me a good time to look there. My previous PC was a five-year old PII 450 with 384M of RAM, and it became a snoozer over time. Jim N7US ----- Original Message ----- From: "William H. Thanks for the Orion-DXBase 2005 tip, Ron. After I checked the CTS box as you suggested the connection started working. I searched the Help file for "Orion" and "CTS" and didn't get any hits, so I'm posting the info here for other Orion users. I like the new DXB 2005 features, but the program seems a little sluggish compared to DXB 2004. Anyone else notice this? 73, Bill NT1Y -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kamar Sent: Thursday, May 13, 2004 5:36 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] Subject: RE: [Dxbase] Anyone using DXBase 2005 with the Ten-Tec Orion? Bill, I am running the Orion with Dxbase 2005. Dxbase properly loads and log the mode and frequency from the Orion. In the radio setup under User Options make sure that you have done the following: the baud rate set to 57600, parity is None, Word Length is 8 bits, and Stop bits set to 1. Also, make sure the CTS box has a check mark in it, and that the DTR High box is unchecked. As you stated the Load Band/Mode from HF Transceiver must have a check mark in its box. DXBase 2005 will QSY the radio and set the mode when I click on the QSY column in the Internet Cluster window. However, when I'm tuning the bands and making QSOs DXbase does not "Load Band/Mode From HF Transceiver" (as I selected in User Options), instead just grabbing the frequency and mode from the previously logged QSO. "Connect HF Radio 1 Serial Interface" is selected, BTW. Anyone else using a Ten-Tec Orion with DXBase 2005? If so, are you experiencing this problem? 73, Bill NT1Y _______________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase _______________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase _______________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase
