Hi Bob and everyone else The best way to start in IOTA is to buy the latest IOTA directory. The IOTA rep in the US is W9DC and I'm pretty sure ARRL sell the IOTA directories. The current one celebrates 40 years of IOTA and has a lot of interesting stuff in it as well as all the award info.
They have a web page at www.rsgbiota.org The directory helps you to get started as it lists all the DXCC countries that are only 1 IOTA reference, and also those DXCCs that count for 2 different IOTAs. Almost all DXCCs have IOTA refs that date back to when the award started in 1964, so you will have no problem there. These ones being given new numbers from time to time are smaller groups of islands off the coast of various DXCCs. In the book there is a cross reference lsit of calls that have been active on the rarest IOTAs. To get a head start there is the IOTA contest this weekend, Sat 24 July 1200z to 1200z Sunday 25 July, both modes, so get stuck in and work your first 100 islands!! Its quite addictive! 73 Fred G4BWP IOTA 900 and counting ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Main" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "DXBase" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, July 24, 2004 12:54 PM Subject: [Dxbase] IOTA I was just wondering about this IOTA thing. Is there a way, preferably an easy way, to determine what IOTA your past contacts fall into? If so how far back could I go? Meaning if I work Christmas Is. in 1982 could it be given a IOTA number or is it after a certain date? I like the columns in the log to have something in them if there is suppose to be something there. Thanks and 73s, Bob ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected]
