OK now it is working. Not sure what got it going, but the things that different people suggested were set. Now one thing that I noticed is that I had picked the 127.0.0.1 localhost line earlier. I went back into User Options and that line wasn't highlighted as I thought it should be, so I clicked it again and then <OK>. Now it works. (What's that I hear? The theme song to the Twilight Zone?)
Thanks all, Bob P.S. The COM port problem that I had appears to be a "Super IO Controller" on the motherboard. Luckily it is under warranty and I will pack it up this weekend and ship it out Monday. They say 10-14 business days turnaround, which is why I brought a laptop from work to use. And the COM port does talk to the radio here, already tried it.
