Puzzle solved. After many hours of trying different combinations of things in the Router, Firewall and program settings Things are finally working. Here's the pciture. Direct connect from DXBase2007 to cluster 1- works fine Connect AR User which is connected to Cluster 1 - doesn't work Direct connect to cluster 2 - works fine Connect to AR User which is connected to cluster 2 - works fine Difference - Cluster 1 is an arc. Cluster 2 is a DX spider Why and how - I have no idea. But now the combination works just fine.

If not done periodically, Access databases can fill up with all kinds of dead wood junk. That may be causing the maximum size message. Be sure to make a back up of your db before doing the compaction. Also make a note of the before and after file size to see how much file space is recovered during by compactung the db.
