Stan:

Thanks!

I will try that, but I already tried opening, for example, DX Monitor (as an
administrator), and still got the UAC screen - so I wonder if your suggestion
will make a difference. Will post result on this reflector.

Al, K6RIM

I updated from DXB 2003 to 2007 several days ago and all has
been working well until today.
The summary box is all confused. It shows totally different info
than what the DXCC output data shows.
For instance if I log a 5N station it shows that country worked
and confirmed on every band, but if you run a HF numeric report
it shows the correct 4 bands.
It seems that every country data is wrong in the Summary box.
What could have happened? Have run init tables, restarted DXB
etc etc.
Thanks 73 Merv KH7C

Check the drop down selection box in the Summary Window and make sure it's
set to "HF-Country", and not "HF-CQ Zone".

Any chance you have the drop down box in the Summary Window set to something
besides HF-country???

and forgot to change it back.
Lets see, turned 65 so can I blame it on senile, bifocals, brain fart ??

Hi Al

I personally think you can turn off UAC without any major problems, I think
it causes more problems than it prevents but that is just my opinion. If you
want to keep it, try using the TweakUAC utility which allows you to tune it
(I do not know if it works on Win7, it was written for Vista where it was
really obnoxious). The download link is at http://www.tweak-uac.com/home/

The error message you are seeing is because DXBase thinks you have your log
file at the default location which is C:\Program Files\Scientific
Solutions\DXB2007\. Can you try to open a new database and select where you
have moved your log.

BTW, its not a good idea to store personal data in the Program Files
directory which is something I will change in 2010 for the default location.

Unlike in Vista, there's a simple slider control in Windows 7 for the level
of UAC protection you want to have in place. Hit the Windows key (assuming
your keyboard has a Windows key, that is), type UAC and bring up the UAC
controls. Move the slider down to the second-stop-from-the-bottom, selecting
the option to only notify you when a program attempts to make changes to the
computer and not to dim the desktop. I've found that this setting works
nicely in balancing annoyances to me and still keeping my system as secure
as possible.

Hi, Peter!

Appreciate your input.

I'm aware of the setting you mention, and it does eliminate the dimming.

But wouldn't it be nice if the (trusted) program simply opened in the
expected manner?

Fortunately, I suppose, so far I have encountered only two programs that
bring up UAC: DX Monitor and Acronis - two programs that I use infrequently.

Are you (or is anybody) aware of a solution that keeps UAC activated but
eliminates all UAC notifications when trusted programs are used?

With thanks and 73,

Al, K6RIM

Try this in Win 7. Create a shortcut on the desktop for the problematic
program. Right click on the shortcut and click on Properties. On the screen
that comes up, click on the Shortcut tab if it is not already selected. On
the Shortcut tab, click on the Advanced button. Check the "Run as
administrator" box, OK, and OK. Now the program should open without invoking
UAC.
