It appears I had a problem I wasn't even aware of - I thought the .ini program was the cause of me always getting the number 2 filter when I QSYed. That was not the case. The original .ini program does set the filter to the last known value. MINE was not doing that and the fix was to correctly set the Serial Interface. My CTS was checked, we unchecked it. The Stop Bits were set to 1, we changed it to 2.
This solved my particular problem. Now, every time I QSY it takes with it the current Filter Setting. Joe, WA6AXE, has made me proud all over again. We now have a Radios.ini that allows us to preselect which Filter we would like to be our 'default'. I prefer to have the narrow filter when I am in a contest, BUT, when I am simply DXing I prefer the use the wider Filter 1 as my default. Under the Radio 1 or Radio 2 TAB will be IC-746Pro_Filter listing. 00 for the original 'last used filter', 01 for filter nr.1, 02 for filter nr.2, 03 for filter nr.3. Simply highlight the Filter you want and 'OK' out of the User Options. This is nice to be able to change defaults. In looking quickly at the other Icom .ini programs, I see no reason why the same fix will not work on them. I have included, as an attachment, the revised IC-746Pro Radios.ini file. Thank again Joe, for rescuing so many of us. Ben KB1FJ p.s. It's really nice to know a 'GURU'.
