Marty, I have DXB2006, but the solution to your problem is probably the same in 2007. You need to create a configuration file, one that ends with .CO in the file name, to save your custom column info. Then when starting DXBase you choose that .CO file as your default layout.
See the Help file sections on "Field Order Overview", "Creating a Field Order Configuration" and "Selecting a Configuration File".
