Steve - not sure how many Q's your friend has entered in DXBase but their is a shortcut way I have found to edit a field without going through each one in the Previous QSO module.
Assuming they are all confirmed with a Card (choices in the dropdown are No, Card, LoTW, and Both), just go to the first record in the log, put your curser in the Cfm field and type a "c" for card - then just arrow down in the CFM field through each record typing a C - arrow down until completed. Could also type a L for LoTW or B for Both. Kind of a shortcut and beats using the Previous QSO module. Might be a more efficient way - not sure.
