Hi Everyone,

I entered 12 ARRL style log books in the the computer a couple of years ago,
along with many contest logs. I started with Fast Log Entry by DF3CB but found
the problem of the contacts not being valid after importing them in to DXbase.
Stokley W3SB    told me about adding DXBVAL=3 to each log entry in the ADIF
file before importing to DXbase. I also tried his spreadsheet. Both of these
methods worked but I found an new problem with my early logs, they are in local
time. So I had to fix that too.  I ended up writing my own program. It works
similar to the program by DF3CB. My programming skills are old and so it my
compiler, so the program only works in a command window. To run it you have to
type the program name following by an input text file name and two output file
names. My program adds the DXBVAL=3 to each contact. It will also fix the time
and date for my local time logs. I put a zip file of it on the DXbase files
area for this group.
See LogConv Zip.zip. I also put a statistics program there. Look for Stats
zip.zip. The Statistics program will read an ADIF file and generate many
statistics. Both programs work on 32 windows XP. I tried them on a 64 bit
windows 7 system but they did not run there. If you know how to run a 32 bit
program on a 64 bit system they may work.

The text to ADIF program also generates a text file that can be compared to the
original paper log. I started out by entering a whole log book in to the
computer then comparing the text file to the original log. I found fixing all
my typing errors was very time consuming. It was far better to type very
carefully and reduce the number of errors to be corrected.  The program will
look and generate an error for times greater than 2359, or months with 32 days.
Invalid calls with no number. It also expects all dates and time to move
forward. It will generate a warning if the date or time moves backwards. The
warnings are not in the adif file only the output text file so they can be
ignored if you know the date and times are correct.
