Hi Neal Yes absolutely!
I know the people involved personally and very well, and all they want is perfection. I have been a user since it was launched and have used it to “clean up” my DXbase logs I have been pretty proactive with my DXbase databases along with Joe’s input to keep them as up to date as possible I have been back entering my old paper logs going back to 1978 at the moment. In fact there is an old bug in DXbase as when you import old logs from ADIF it never checks the start/end date windows in its own files for old calls as the data is imported and maps everything as if it were “today”. Pushing that back to Clublog then gets me a few pages of errors in call mapping. I use that to manually clean up DXbase, but when I look many of the mappings are actually there, but not used during an ADIF import. My method is Type into Fast Log Entry to make an ADIF Import to DXbase Export from DXbase again in ADIF Load to Clublog (and LOTW) Manually enter corrections and exceptions in DXbase Very, very occasionally (like 1 in 3000 QSOs, which is a typical UK paper log book) if find a call which is not mapped in CL but I have written notes in my log about the QSO. Then I email Alan to have a look into it. 73 Fred From: Neal Campbell Sent: Friday, October 31, 2014 3:27 PM To: Fred Handscombe Cc: [email protected] ; DXBase List Subject: Re: [Dxbase] Update to the Refdata (Alias Map table) Fred Do you trust the Clublog database more than DXBases? Its a serious question, I can make it so we periodically import the database and use it, but when I did it the first time there were more than a few "disagreements" with its settings. I enthusiastically support Clublog, they seem to be the only people working on "getting it right" but just wanted your opinion! 73 BOO! BIG HALLOWEN SALE IN PROGRESS! That whole area of M* of callsigns is a mess in the default DXbase data base. It dates back to when Jack was running DXbase and I think he was given some bad advice by someone as many of the UK calls (G*, M*, 2*) were very wrongly mapped. I wrote to him about it way back but nothing happened. I guess living in UK my information didn't count :-) Once you have added MA0 if you look in the body of the "Alias mapping" tab MA5 maps to GI - WRONG, its GM MA6 maps to GD - WRONG, Its GM MA7 maps to GJ - WRONG, its GM MA8 maps to GU - Wrong, its GM MA1 is missing, should be GM GA also maps to G - WRONG, its GM (a "9" in any UK prefix (G9, M9) for ham radio has never existed) ALL MA (and GA, 2A) prefixes are in SCOTLAND (GM, MM, 2M). Alba is an ancient name for Scotland and this year 2014 is the "homecoming year", hence the special call for Scottish residents only The whole mess is repeated in MB* Hopefully the "new" DXbase will use the Clublog database for callsign mapping 73 Fred G4BWP - A65BD -----Original Message----- From: Joe Glockner Sent: Friday, October 31, 2014 1:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Dxbase] Update to the Refdata (Alias Map table) Recently two DXbase users gave me a heads-up on the callsign MA0XAU .. (Scotland - GM) ClubLog maps this MA0 prefix to Scotland .. and doing a search of the Spots for MA0 - they show Scotland also.. So, since this callsign produces NO Prefix - if you log it right now ... You can setup the MA0 prefix to now log as GM by: Go to Main Menu Tools/ Database Access/ Country prefixes... When the window comes up -- go to the Alias Map TAB and scrolldown to the bottom of that tables -- enter the following: Map Prefix MA0 Pri Prefix GM Next - save this entry by putting your mouse curser into the next (Blank) row. 73 Joe wa6axe ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
