DXbase was pricey when I bought my first copy but it certainly met my needs.
Using the mdb format certainly made it something I haven't had a problem
entering over 100,000 QSOs in the last decade knowing that they would be
portable if I had to move them. I look at my aging setup which uses serial and
parallel port control of radios and SO2R radio switching and know that the day
is coming when I am going to have to change out something. That is going to
result in a complete revamp of the station including the software. It
currently works but a new radio will mean USB control, that will mean a new
computer, which means a new OS which will probably result in another logging
program. Heck, I only run Windows to run DXbase. My contest software is still
DOS based. It's a classic turn of the millennium station. It does what it was
designed to do and nothing more. That computer is not networked and doesn't do
anything but control a station and log QSOs.

I am not the type of person who has to have the latest version of anything
unless it provides some advantage that I actually use.

New versions would have to take advantage of the new OS's. Multiple display
capability, networking, remote access via network control of station functions
(this would really make it worthwhile in my situation giving myself and others
access to the station via internet) and it would really be a bonus if it had a
good contest logger built into it. New versions would probably also have a
yearly license and accept VISA on the internet to renew it.

I almost feel bad for software developers. A parent only has to support their
child for 18 years. Software never becomes self supportive.

So here I am, keeping the station running with what I have. Trying to make it
work until I make the next move to a new QTH and revamp the whole thing from
scratch.

I am happy with DXB in its present form. However, I wouldn't mind
seeing it become friendly with the new operating systems. I'm sure it
would make our lives and Neal's life easier too. Neal came to my aid
when I upgraded to Windows 7. I never would have figured it out.

What would you like to see in the BRAND NEW VERSION in terms of features?

Kind regards,

Steve, N4JQQ
