I was too quick with my earlier post.  the attached version works correctly
and also contains an example page.

Michael, I posted it at the same time as downloading your post.  However,
after looking at your code, it is create for use as an extension but is adds
almost too much code that is not commonly used.

This is very useful for something such as an image map or such.
