Ingots and coins cannot be backed-up but can be locked-up.
The e-accounts which track which of us own what fractions of
the gold in the warehouses should be backed upon on CD-R or
DVD-R just in case we have an electromagnetic pulse erase
all magnetic media and reset everyone's accounts to zero,
and the backups be zeroed also. Sombody could get stuck with
a warhouse full of metal, and not know to whom it belonged,
if the ones and zeros of magnetism aren't replicated in
ones and zeros of optical media. Quick Poll:
How many Gold Commerce e-Companies which hold any balance of
monetary value for themselves or their customers have non
magnetic backups with offsite backups?
I better be hearing a yes from e-Gold, MetalSavings, and
Standard Reserve.

Next we can ask the same of modern banks... how do they backup?

This could be an area where at least for a while the
Gold commerce could outperform the credit commerce.
