I don't want to start an off-topic thread, but just one comment on the topic
of consentual crimes. I have a prediction to make.
Although I do not personally consider his lifestyle a good idea, some time
soon the polygamy (and other) laws Tom Green of Utah has been convicted
under will have to be abolished, otherwise the antidiscrimination laws will
have to be repealed in order to make it legal to discriminate on the basis
of:
Religious practise
Marital status
Sexual preference
Age
Culture or Race
For sure, no 'western' government is likely to consider under any
circumstances charging an African tribal chief with polygamy and child rape
because a wife was married under a specified age, or because several women
have chosen to marry the guy. Nor will the Californian government consider
prosecuting so-called 'gay' people in San Fransisco if they are deemed to be
cohabitating with more than one person.
Inconsistency in the legal system is a bad thing. Repeal of laws
inconsistent with clearly stated fundamental principles seems the easier
option. (Even if they are not my principles, but those of our contemporary
world.)
