Hi Jim, I agree with you. I got the same message from them, and after visting the (alleged) escrow agent's website I told them I would prefer to deal with a market maker that I know and trust than an escrow agent that I do not trust. Furthermore, there were no savings in fees to be made for the transaction as a whole than simply to pay a competitive market maker. I suggested we should establish trust directly and we could save fees, but I did not hear back from them again. It does indeed sound suspicious when they say they "don't like" dealing with a market maker, but then go on to instruct us to deal with an unknown escrow agent, who, you have found out for us, is apparently not independent or arms-length from the person suggesting such a business relationship.
I hope no-one here (or anywhere else) has been scammed by this process! There are quite trustworthy market makers here (on this list), so why risk loss simply because someone claims to be an escrow agent?
