You are quite right.
In fact the amount of fraud committed with e-gold (or goldmoney or
osgold or any other gold issuer for that matter) is a drop in the ocean
compared with the money laundering, fraud and other criminal activities
associated with and through the commercial banks. Money laundering is
well into the billions each year. The small percentage of fraudulent
activity with e-gold accounts is piddling compared to that.
Ans as for why 'other gold currencies' have not as much fraud (I would
not dare to say they have none) is primarily due to two factors. e-
gold has been around for far longer and people (even criminals) tend to
be conservative and don't like change. I am sure that in 10 years or so
the amount of fraudulent activities in the gold industry will be fairly
even across the board including any new up and coming digital
currencies.
the Directors of e-gold have taken great pains to demonstrate their
arms length status from accounts resulting in the current situation
where they are perceived to be uncaring and, to some extent,in
agreement with, allowing HYIPs et al. Having maintained that stance
they are now faced with the difficult question of, "How far should the
arms length go?". I think it is a problem that they have not resolved
yet.
Eleanor Roosevelt I think it was that said, 'Everyone is responsible
for their own actions'. No one is making anyone else invest in HYIPs
or investment programs and games. It is a matter of person choice.
Some of them even point out it is a game and not to spend more than
they can afford. No Gold Issuer is responsible for the owners of the
accounts it maintains any more than a bank is responsible for the
owners of the accounts IT maintains.
