If you believe the writings of Lyndon LaRouche, among others (and although he is fairly mad his research is very reliable) HSBC is one of the biggest gangster/organised crime banks in the world. That said, as far as their customers are concerned this is not necessarily a bad thing for many people involved in the gold economy.
Of course as they are the local agents for Omnipay, I had the joyous experience once of having to go and query why a cheque from them I had deposited hadn't cleared in a timely manner. The bank idiot claimed that the reason was that it was a foreign bank (it isn't, it is the HSBC of Australia or something), but was unable to explain why if it was a foreign cheque I hadn't been charged the foreign cheque fee or had the mandatory 30 day wait on foreign bank cheques. Ian: What are you talking about re: my time zone? I have never been to the US or Western Australia, my time zone should be set (and is as far as I can tell) to East Coast Australian time.
