Excellent questions, Dan. I'll sum up one particularly-easy
answer to number three in a single URL:

http://www.apple.com/switch/

My PowerBook is not perfect, but I regularly run anti-virus
and don't click where I shouldn't, and I've been very happy
with it. A cheaper option is a used iBook, you'll want it to run
the "Jaguar" version of OSX, which is quite nice and stable.
I just got Eudora running on it, and (wonder-of-wonders) it
grabbed all my preferences/filters/etc. over from Classic. :)
(Opinions are solely my own, most people think I'm wrong,
or nuts, etc.!)

PS This morning I've already been emailed three suspect
files, all deleted.
