I have a question for list members (answer off-list if desired). 
Recently while unplugging my blocked sink, I found a small cache of 
broken up jewellery and watches in the U-Bend (no, I don't know how 
they got there either). A number of the bigger pieces look like they 
might be gold (fingers crossed). They aren't tarnished. What I am 
wondering is, is there some easy test I can perform to tell if they 
are probably gold or partly gold? I don't want to look like a 
complete idiot if I take in lumps of brass or copper to be tested at 
a jewellers.
