Hello Everyone, If you only recently tuned in, here are the collected works of some of the brightest minds and some of the most productive members [possibly these are mutually exclusive, but background data is sketchy] of the community for the past week:
It all started with Graham questioning if a new self-proclaimed bank representative offering debit cards was trustworthy. I chimed in about the fact that the guy was on a freehost and had no own domain name. I argued that if someone was unable or unwilling to fork out the little it would have cost him for domain and commercial hosting that his motives might be questionable. After all, this meant that he wasn't willing to commit some $60 to a business that claimed to represent a bank - a chash up front business at that. So far so good. Graham then suggested that he'd be willing to do the DD on the guy and run a positive ID. Then all hell broke loose. Graham was being battered by all and sundry for one reason after another, but nobody really questioned that he was/is one of the largest exchangers and has satisfied customers by the truck load. Then Craig brough up OSgold and assorted OS scam, in which Graham says he lost $50,000 and Craig, Sidd and assorted others said that it was his own fault and it had been clear from the beginnig that OSgold was a scam. For three days Graham defended himself and his opponents threw in brilliant arguments such as: "45% in three months, 35% per months, 45% per month, etc. are absolutely impossible and it was clear it was all a scam from the beginning, and we knew it all and you should have done the right thing and acted as we did and...". I know there isn't a single argument in there and it's basically opinions and feel-good-about-myself stuff. But hey, we all need that from time to time. I threw in the occasional example how 45% in three months was no big deal and how it was feasible in Asia and Eastern Europe, for example. Katzglobal seconded that with an example of his own, and dozens of list membere emailed me privately to find out who was doing the programmes that made that much profit. I further tried to argue that a categorical denial of facts does not change the subject truth and factual accuracy, but to no avail. For some people it did appear categorical denial in itself was proof enough. Reminded me of the world being flat, Saddam possessing gazillions of WMD and if the human body would ever move faster than 35mph it would implode (yep, they believed that some 200 years ago). Mariman then came into the battle saying that if anyone was blaming exchangers they must also blame e-gold for letting it happen. Someone else agreed with that and the battle seemed to have lost direction until JMR ever the free-market spirit told them that e-gold was basically doing the right thing and was in fact loosing money due to higher administartion costs when those scammers were active. I'd like to point out here that I fully agree that e-gold's non involvement is exactly the right way to act. They are our facilitator not our nanny. So,after the onslaught continued into the fifth day I tried to call it a draw. JPM and others agreed that it would be enough. Yesterday was almost peaceful, before dear James, who had been quiet so far threw fresh oil on the dying flames. He came with the ingenious argument that 45% was unheard of, absolutely impossible and it all was a scam and Graham had supported OSgold and he hadn't and neither had many others and everybody felt so good about themselves. I threw in the argument that some conatiners of refurbished computer monitors had just left Penang, Malaysia headed for Iraq with a margin of some 300%. Actually it tunred out that the margin was much higher, but I wanted to stick by the original number. Attempts by others to change the subject were futile and we are about to enter day 7 of the hostilities. Remains to be mentioned that Graham says he's never had more business than in the past few days, and I have to agree that we had double the normal number of sign-ups for new hosting accounts as well. I suppose this makes us opportunitic and bad in the eyes of our resident saints, but I still can't see that they made any logical argument - which is a pitty indeed, because they used to be quiote liked for bringing calm and wisdom into discussions.
