This could be a BIOS issue.  Do you have the latest one for your system?  It 
looks like the Ethernet device wasn't suspended correctly which seems to be 
happening here.  

So this doesn't happen if you have a cable with link plugged in to the port?

Are you also saying that it's only happening on the T540p and not on the T530?  
If yes then this point to BIOS again.
