Hi,
We are designing an embedded system that includes a Intel i210 controller.
We have followed Intel ref design and are using a Intel approved companion
flash (M25PX80)
The intel doc for the chip describes a detailed flash layout ( two
initialized 4KB sectors,...). It says that if the flash is not valid then
the chip defaults to its internal iNVM for information retrieval. Fair
enough. So we need to make sure the flash is initialized correctly.

I see the e1000 driver has extension for ethtool. On a brand new H/W, can
we use "ethtool -f "

ethtool -f|--flash DEVNAME Flash firmware image from the specified file to
a region on the device FILENAME [ REGION-NUMBER-TO-FLASH ]

to program the blank flash?

In fact I am not clear on what needs be done to properly initialize a blank
flash. There is the Intel bootutil tool, but I don't know that it can be
used in that case. It seems more like a management tool of an already
intialized device.

Thanks for any information
