When discussing a "new look" and possibly a "new structure/model" for the
SDK workbench in e4, one thing that is often suggested is:
"Eclipse should have a common search bar."
So it has been on our "visual design items" list for some time. [1]
I find when talking to people that people have different ideas in their
head of what a "common search bar" actually does when they say they want
one. What is the scope of the search? What is the relationship (if any)
to platform search? text find and replace?
Sure, we know that RCP apps will have their own definition of what this
search might do, but in the context of the SDK workbench, what does it do?
I've opened a bug to discuss this. [2].
The bug is opened against Eclipse Platform UI because it's not really
dependent on e4 technology, although it most likely will be delivered on
the e4-based workbench. I thought I should let folks on this list know
about the bug since you might not be watching the platform UI inbox.
