-1. It takes up 8 pixels. By creating as many options as we have, we slowly make
the
operability of IDEA more and more confusing to average users (of course when I make my
request for options its different :-)

I would prefer to see the size of the grab-bar shrunk to around 4 pixels. Or better
yet,
create a splitter like is done in microsoft word. The splitter grab point is north of
the
scrollbar, and only becomes visible across the editing area when it is dragged. This
way it
is always available (no option), but takes up no vertical real-estate until it is
activated.

Any is rather vague. For example, vertical real-estate is more precious than
horizontal
real-estate. We could move the tabs from being on the top to on the side (optionaly
of
course). A similar statement could be made with the tool buttons along the top. or
the
status bar on the bottom.

Taken to the extreme we create bizare operability designed to maximize vertical real-
estate.

I personaly would prefer to see work spent on other features, or perhaps something
like
side-by-side display where code flows from the first column to the second. Larger
screens
(like mine) can easily accommodate two "pages" of code side by side.

As a general principle I agree with this, but in the case of the splitter bar, I think
splitters
are part of a general editor's function. Focus on minimizing their visual impact, not
in
optionaly providing them.

-1. Part of the beauty of Intellij is the integration of editing and navigation
functionality. A
fullscreen mode ends up hiding the navigational part of IDEA. So, why not just use
vim as
an external tool?
