Not being able to see more than one file at a time seems to be a big
enough limitation that if the tabs are what is preventing the feature
then they should be re-thought.  (Honestly, I'm sure there is a way to
have both tabs and multi-file-editing, but I rate the latter much more
important than the former.)  The single file limitation means I have to
keep vim running in other terminal windows just so I can see files
related to the one I'm working on.  That's not cool.  I want to be in
IDEA all the time!
