I notice that printing out messages often slows down my own code, so I was thinking that perhaps the compile process is being slowed down by the constant display to the compile status window.
So if it had just a progress bar (with 10 steps perhaps, so it only got updated 10 times for the entire build rather than the 5000+ times it gets updated now), perhaps the compile would go more quickly. The class names go by so quickly that I can't read them anyway, so I wouldn't really miss anything.
