If it takes a long time it still could be done with a background thread at
lowest priority so it would only use free cycles. It would be a delayed
update but still useful in my opinion. I have been so drilled with other
explorer like interface that I seem to be always caught off guard by the
fact that the tree selection isn't necessarily the file I am editing: I just
look at the tree before looking at the tab. I cannot help it.

Anyway from the file you know the package structure and its source path. How
hard could it be to find the corresponding node in the tree given this info?
Am I missing something?
