If anyone can figure out how to get the command line version of SS to check files out in Non-Exclusive mode I would be interested to hear what you have to say.. I have quite a few VSS tools set up in IDEA but all of the Checkouts are done in exclusive mode which is annoying to say the least.

You've made a whole bunch of developers very happy! The clue I needed was the SSDIR environment setting. I found I didn't need the .bat files - just set the working directory to $FileDir$ and use commands like: CheckOut $FileName$ in the parameter line. This might be a bit off-topic, but has anyone found a way to use Visual SourceSafe from within IDEA (or from the command line at all)? There seems to be a command line tool SS.EXE which could be integrated as an External Tool, but I can't get it to work - it doesn't recognise my username/password. Just the ability to check in/out files would be great, but things like diff and history would be ideal.
