Ahh. 
Idea automagically added anextension to the "file type on the IDE 
Options->File Types->xml entry. 
All this black magicking is sometimes a problem:)
It certainly wasn't what I expected.

Trying again, I see that idea asks me whith what extension do I want to 
associate "anextension". I don't remember this box earlier - was it the 
same? I think my brain saw what it expected to see (append extension to 
file) instead of what was there :)

Suggestion: on the "Register New Extension" box have a check box to 
"append extension to new file" to do jus't that instead of adding the 
new extension to an existing file type.
