[snip] This still doesn't explain why IDEA eats up memory when (a) switching between projects and (b) running code (shift-F10). It seems that the more I do either of these, the more memory IDEA gets through, and even running the manual GC doesn't reduce the in-use memory to a realistic level. Maybe it's worth spending some effort working out where all the references are being taken up and not returned? Something like OptimizeIt might help. I currently have -Xmx192 but when I have more than two IDEA sessions running - which I have to for multiple projects - I have to shut down and restart IDEA almost daily. However, I still believe that IDEA is the best IDE since sliced bread...
