Yes, I agree with you completely.  I wrote something about that but it
must have disappeared when I was editing the mail.  I was just trying to
find the reasons why it currently works like it does, but I would also
want to select anything that *could* be a valid subexpression if it
*had* been in parentheses, or something like that.
