I don't know what happened in 611, but I think its gotten worse. I regularly recompile 40 files a pop now (out of 1500). Its not too bad, but previously it was only 6 or so.
I also have the problem where the first time I compile, it blows away my RMI stubs. (because there are .class files without corresponding .java files. Luckily, I just have to drop to a shell, recompile there, and all is well. IDEA only purges "unnecessary" files once. Is there anything I can do to help debug this? I can't exactly figure out what files it thinks are "out of date", becaues it goes too quickly to read.
