Hi Jim,
I posted a similar problem a few days ago and Vladimir Kondratyev of
IntelliJ gave me a solution that fixed it, but my problem was flashing
of menus and such from other applications. You might try to see if this
helps:
please try to add -Dsun.java2d.noddraw to JVM arguments in your
startup script (idea.bat file located in the IDEA_HOME\bin directory).
